Amazon Echo Dot using Apple HomePod for audio.

Amazon Echo Dot using Apple HomePod for audio.

It's possible to configure a CHIP or Raspberry Pi to act as a Bluetooth Speaker and AirPlay audio to a HomePod. This would enable you to play any Bluetooth audio source to a HomePod.

For the Next Thing Co. CHIP - I flashed it to boot into Debian Linux - and installed the following from GitHub -

CHIP Bluetooth Speaker - This is a script that turns your CHIP into a Bluetooth audio receiver. Among the packages this script installs is Pulseaudio which you can configure to output the system audio to a named (fifo) pipe. (Check out the Pulseaudio section here)

forked-daapd - This will AirPlay audio to a destination you select via a web-interface. It can read and auto-play a named pipe of audio when placed in the music library directory.

There are some issues with audio delay which I hope to work out.

How has the development of this come since 2018? Are there still significant delay issues? I would love to use this day-to-day.

Thanks!
Garrett
